Untold Stories - Martin Luther King Jr.'s Mom

As long as I have been living these 25 years and have heard of Martin Luther King Jr. - I have never heard of the tragic way his mom died. As I looked through timeline events for my previous post, I came across a shocking timeline about Martin Luther King's mother that I never knew. I found it interesting that her father, husband, and son served as ministers at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. I imagine how amazing it must have been for her to grow up with her father as the head of the church, and then to watch it pass on to her husband, and then her son. She was also an active member of the church. Sadly, one day, a mentally-ill gunman walked into the church, and shot her. It was at random, I believe, and his only reason for doing that is that he had something against Christians. It was so long ago and I am sure she is at peace now, but I am just shocked that this is not well known. She looks like a sweet lady here is her memorial page:

I know she was a great foundational source from which Martin Luther King Jr. build himself on. May she continue to rest in peace.

  1. That is so sad. But I'm glad she got to watch her son succeed from a good view. AKA: Heaven
